Consorzio Piacenza Alimentare

The Consortium

History

Only the best goes into the basket

The Consortium “Piacenza Alimentare” was created in 1980 by the local Chamber of Commerce and since then it has played a fundamental role in the local economy by setting in motion a process of internationalisation of Piacenza small and medium-sized food companies willing to export their products.
At present the Consortium gathers seventy five companies, which are renowned for their reliability and tradition, but most of all for the quality of their products, including those which are guaranteed by the relevant Safeguard Consortiums.
Over the centuries, the production of delicious cured meat products (among which the three P.D.O. products), cheese, excellent C.D.O. wines, fruits and vegetables, tomato and vegetables preserves with the regional Q.C. label and organic products has earned Piacenza her place in the prestigious "Italian Food Valley", famous throughout the world for its gastronomic heritage.
History and nature have always smiled on this piece of land of ours in northern Italy. Placentia, the name used by the Romans to call our town, means “the pleasant town”. The beauty of the countryside, the fertility of the land and the strategic geographical position have made Piacenza one of the historic capitals of this area.

Castles, monuments and palaces are the indelible traces left by the illustrious peoples and dynasties that chose to live here, from the Etruscans on. Julius Caesar himself established his headquarters here as a step in the creation of his empire. When the nearby city of Milan overtook her in size, Piacenza never lost that discrete peasant nobility made of history and traditions which has remains unchanged. A proof of this is the incomparable traditions upheld today by the members of the Consortium, proud standard-bearers of an ancient gastronomic culture.
